A flower fairy in her secret garden

Me and Puneet, from the very beginning wanted to make Ivanka’s first birthday a very private and closed affair. This also meant taking pictures for keepsakes forever. I completely belong to the school of thought that believes photos are for time travel. I can’t reiterate enough on how much I love pictures and how important pictures are for me to capture the moments perfectly. But also, how this entire process can be personalised to the extent of you lovingly doing it yourself (DIY).

Metallic silver bow clip is a perfect accessory pairing.

This post is primarily about how you too can actually do a first birthday shoot all by yourself! No studio needed! All the things you really need are as follows (please feel free to modify add and subtract at your own comfort, these are the items that I considered were must haves for the photo shoot we did.):

  1. A back drop for photoshoot

We sourced a floral Pink, Blue and White backdrop for our baby’s photoshoot. These flowers were properly handcrafted in different sizes and made out of paper. Surprisingly, these reached me within a short span of a week’s time, I think. The product was made as per my specifications by Pretty Your Party. It’s one of the best websites for party supplies of any kind or theme in India. Think of pom poms, buntings, banners, paper fans, paper garlands, tableware, balloons? Think of them! They are very open to customisations and execute your themes effortlessly. I just had to drop them emails and a few phone calls were all that was needed to make the idea clear and get what we wanted. You can visit their website here.

Chalkboard Frame

Mandatory for me for my theme was a chalkboard frame comprising of all that Ivanka likes, dislikes, was able to accomplish in 1 circle around the sun! This was executed beautifully by Payal Savla Designs (Find them on Instagram @payalsavladesigns or call them on 9819004466). I think I had more details on it than any chalkboard frame can possibly accommodate but luckily for me Payal achieved the unachievable. While still talking about the shoot I also want to make note of the fact that she did all cake toppers for Ivanka’s birthday too along with a beautiful Gold glitter name plaque.

Tassles

We got Pink, White, Gold ombre tassles for the shoot from Pretty your Party which can also be perfect for cake table decoration.

Floral Initial Alphabet

We adored the beautiful Floral Alphabet that Pretty your Party did for us. I plan to make it a permanent part of Ivanka’s nursery, along with the tassles and Flowers that I intend to stick on wall to make it an accent feature of the nursery.

3. A super special outfit

An outfit is the show stopper of any shoot. The most important ingredient that makes the subject stand out from all the backdrops and props to make the shoot truly memorable. This outfit from ASP Babycouture (Instagram @asp_babycouture, Whatsapp 09820907809) was so special that we decided not to mess it up with a cake smash as Ivanka had had quite a few cake smashes on the real day! This shoot was planned approx a week or less after her first birthday. The outcome was a sheer delight with this beautiful vintage blush pink outfit with dazzling big bow behind.
